Dr.Geeta Vasudevan is a scholar and educationist in the field of history and
culture. A graduate of Economics from Loreto College, Lucknow, she completed
her M.A. Ancient History, from the Centre for Historical Studies, School of
Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University and M.Phil. from University of
Madras.
A Ph.D in Ancient History from Madras University, she has authored a major
book on Chola history, THE ROYAL TEMPLE OF RAJARAJA, and has written
several papers for research journals and periodicals. Widely travelled, Dr.Geeta
has made comparative studies of cultures around the world.
Dr.Geeta Vasudevan is the Director of Cultural Tourism and Advisory Committee
member of Dakshinachitra, a heritage centre of South India near Chennai.
Associated actively with Dakshinachitra for the past ten years, she has
been primarily responsible for the establishment of the Division for
Cultural tourism and Marketing and has been instrumental in placing
Dakshinachitra on the national and international tourism circuits.
She has represented India in various international conferences and seminars
connected with Cultural Tourism and Heritage and continues her passion
in education encouraging cultural education for students through history
and travel lectures.
She is the founder and coordinator of Hayagriva Study Circle, a pioneering effort
towards continuing education for adults in the city of Chennai. Inspired
by the Learning in Retirement programs in the West, Hayagriva Study
Circle endeavours to impart education and information through lectures in various
disciplines. The courses for Hayagriva Study Circle are conducted by eminent
professors and specialists in the respective fields.
